I love these bags, hope they’re successful. However, the federal government is being very hard headed.
i have a compost bin for my condo unit, and I am super active with it. I tossed in a normal plastic bag the compostable ones are replacing as well as a coop compostable one, at the same time. Think that was around feb-mar of this year, the coop one is 90% gone and cant really tell where the parts are. Old school one is still very much there, but in tatters. I’ll take pics in the next few days and post them here if anyone is interested.
But the federal government told me it will kill wild life
while i can see it being a hazard for some critters for a little while, especially when just discarded, its not a bad idea. imo its way better than what we currently use and I dont know why the feds are so against it. at least its a step in the right direction
I generally like the idea too but I think beyond damage to wildlife, etc., It still also promotes this culture of single use items which produces additional waste and a consumerist/ignorant mindset of manufacturing products. However, reusable bags also make an impact on our environment if we aren’t constantly using the ones we have (and I know I’m guilty of forgetting mine at home occasionally). But it also promotes being more actively mindful in carrying reusable containers and products, which hopefully translates to more environmentally friendly behaviours (which has led me consistently carrying my backpack and using water bottles/travel mugs a majority of the time).
It’s really hard to tell in this case which is the better choice, but for now I think having people actively practice better environmental behaviours might be better in the long run.
I signed the petition earlier today, I’m happy to see it being boosted here!
So I would get these bags, then use them for garbage. Now I have to buy non-compostable bags for garbage. It’s the usual poorly thought out legislation we’ve come to expect.
Bags intended for the landfill won’t break down either way, since landfills are designed not to breakdown the contents. You should be using the bags for composting
