They’re just saying that so the Xenomorph doesn’t make it to the surface
Heh we could handle it easily with all our modern weapons. We have automatic rifles, flamethrowers, shotguns… It wouldn’t stand a chance. I think we even have exoskeletons, so I’m fairly confident in our abilities to cope with that glorified cockroach. What could possibly happen?
To be fair in the comics humanity does get to a point where we can take care of xenomorphs just as easily if not more easily than the dedicated hunter extermination teams, the only insurmountable challenge is re-claiming a planet that’s already totally infested.
