“We call our masses, our nation, and free people around the world in a global movement against the plans to uproot our Palestinian people, in the coming Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to march against the plan of the occupation and its supporters,” Hamas said in a statement.
Gotta hand it to Trump here. I expected his comments to eventually undo the fragile peace that the Biden administration negotiated in its twilight days, but three weeks is impressively fast.
Don’t forget that Israel has continued killing Palestinians and Lebanese during the ceasefire.
Bullshit. Trump told them to stop and they stopped because they hated Biden and wanted him to fail. That was very clear the entire time.
This… This is not stopping. He’s going to complete the genocide.
Are we doing revisionist history now? Without Trump the ceasefire wouldn’t have happened, Biden made it clear that he wouldn’t force Israel to agree with it. And Israel would never agree with it on itself if Trump didn’t force them.
You’re right in that Trump wanted the war to drag out to prevent a win by Biden. Some suspect that he actively worked against peace similar to what Reagan did to Carter
Trump wasnt even president yet when it happened buddy.
Trump’s guy Steve Witkoff was involved in the ceasefire negotiations.

Jonathan Panikoff, director of the Scowcroft Middle East Security Initiative at the Atlantic Council, said Biden deserves praise for continuing to push the talks despite repeated failures. But Trump’s threats to Hamas and his efforts through Witkoff to “cajole” Netanyahu deserve credit as well, he said.
“The ironic reality is that at a time of heightened partisanship even over foreign policy, the deal represents how much more powerful and influential U.S. foreign policy can be when it’s bipartisan,” he said. “Both the outgoing and incoming administration deserve credit for this deal and it would’ve been far less likely to happen without both pushing for it.”
The article goes on to explain that the importance of Trump’s guy was that he simply showed up, despite not contributing much of anything, which signified that Biden’s deal would contribute under Trump.
It also notably mentions that Biden’s plan was for the US to “govern” Gaza during reconstruction, which sounds a lot like what Trump is trying to say when he opens his moron mouth talking about the US “taking” Gaza.
I completely agree, that the negotiations and deal happened under the Biden administration’s leadership.
The question is why was this ceasefire deal reached, only days before Trump took office? I suspect it played a role. Trump‘s people had been in contact with the Israeli government before the transition of power. That said diplomatic processes are notoriously opaque.
I completely agree, that the negotiations and deal happened under the Biden administration’s leadership. Trump‘s understanding of the situation is limited, and he tries to exploit it according to his typical MO.

Trump directly or indirectly communicated with Netanyahu to first promote this ceasefire, not questioning Israel spendings, providing a wider variety of weapons and now this. Waaay before that it’s been claimed by some media that Gasa is set to become one large real estate development project run by israelis once palestinians get deported and their houses brought down. I am sure it all was on paper before Trump started phase one for how he’d look slapping dems with it and then he and his friends would join the grift, maybe open another casino.
Bibi gifted him a golden pager. Ceasefire wasn’t a compromise involving Palestine in any way. It was a deal between two of them.
Revisionist history now includes pretending that the correct fascist but not in chief totally didn’t prevent the cease fire in the first place for political purposes.
Yes, there was a fragile peace that Biden negotiated IN SPITE OF Der Furhur’s efforts.
“But two Arab officials told The Times of Israel that Steve Witkoff, the Middle East envoy of Donald Trump – who begins his second term as US president on Monday – did more to sway Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in one meeting than Biden did in a whole year.
The prevailing analysis in the Israeli media is that it was the incoming Trump administration’s pressure on Netanyahu, rather than Israeli pressure on Hamas, that got the agreement over the finish line.”

Biden was never willing to put any pressure on Israel. With the US holding all the cards since they’re the primary funders of Israel’s war efforts, Biden had every opportunity to force a ceasefire before Trump did.
The idea that Trump had any power over Biden while Biden could just decide to stop sending weapons is extremely naive. It’s an attempt to dismiss democrat’s complicity in the genocide on the Palestinian people. We should never forget that both the democrats and the republicans are fully supportive of this horrific genocide.

You realize this supports my position too, when we’re talking about trump preventing it through unofficial back channels, right? Trump did more so quickly because this was always the plan.
This is basically the Iranian hostage scandal playing out again.
It doesn’t support your position at all because I’ll repeat, Biden held all the cards when he was president. He could just threaten to stop sending weapons.
It’s like talking to a brick wall with these Democrat fanboys, but I appreciate that you try!
Fuck Hamas, but also fuck tRump. And netanjahu. At the moment those last 2 the most.
yeah this is absolutely the problem… now that hamas has called for marches, every single march that’s pro-palestine will be twisted into pro-hamas
They’d do that anyway

I didn’t realize that they still had some hostages, makes sense when you realize how untrustworthy the Trumpster and his gang are.
Well the last round of transfers didn’t happen because Israel didn’t uphold it’s agreement. They would have released them otherwise.
How dare you speak the truth.
Also, how is Israel going to use those several billions of dollars in arms it just got from the US. It is almost like dropping more bombs is part of the plan.
The transfers stopped after the latest hostages transferred were in terrible physical shape. Hamas might try and feed their remaining hostages so they don’t look as emaciated.
lol did Hamas deny them the luxuries and plentiful food that’s abundant in Gaza?
Israel’s “ceasefire” managed nearly 1000 casualties and the death of several children. I wish someone did that kind of not firing at bibi’s dome
the luxuries and plentiful food that’s abundant in Gaza
A lot of Israeli hostages report their biggest fear was getting blown up by Israeli bombs.
Sadly more accurate to say American
Odd way to say continuous violations by Israel
makes sense when you realize how untrustworthy the
TrumpsterUS andhis gangits allies are.
Ok, so where are people finding out about local protests? They keep happening and I don’t know about them because I’m not on any social sites beyond Lemmy. I’m not gonna create a FB account or whatever else, so how can I tap into my local protest movement? I occasionally see a flyer. I can’t rely on that for this (probably) imminent movement.
March? We couldn’t even all agree to just keep this guy from office.
You kind of did though, ~75% of voters did not vote for Trump, so you overwhelmingly agreed on that. Of course in elections you don’t vote **against ** anything, you can only vote **for ** something. The question is why don’t Americans have something to vote for, like a platform of affordable eggs and not supporting genocide, is beyond me.
