If you had it purchased through iTunes in the past, it should be upgraded for free.

I was literally in the middle of watching the movie when I saw this post.

Exited out, started it again. It’s amazing in 4K, astounding how much better it looks.

Just checked it out. Picture on my 14PM is amazing. Not surprised, I saw it for the first time in theaters fully restored and it was incredible.

I missed the 4K release in theaters. Husband and I were gonna go for Valentine’s Day then we got COVID. I was super bummed. And my iTunes copy hasn’t upgraded yet. 😞

soo if I buy it right now for $7.99 (HD) will I get the upgrade?

I’m not seeing the 4k call outs. Is this a short term loophole or would I be stuck at 1080?

It’s weird. When I search for it in iTunes, it shows 4K. But when I go to watch it in the AppleTv app it’s still HD.

Go into the 4K/HDR folder/section under your Apple TV app within your library… find Titanic and there and play it, it should play properly.

If you had a standard definition iTunes digital copy of Titanic and re-purchased it to upgrade to HD (and later 4K), is your purchased copy playing in 4K HDR? Mine only does if I play directly from my movie library on my Apple TV 4K. (And that was only after I deleted and un-deleted it from my library using the Apple TV app on my Mac.) If I perform a Siri search on my Apple TV 4K, the result it finds plays in what seems to be below 480p resolution but it is in HDR.

If anyone who did the same with this movie can try checking and see what results you get trying to play it back both ways, I’d like to know. One more thing, my Apple TV is on the latest Public Beta.

I only had the SD digital copy and mine is now showing 4K, so it looks like everyone got the upgrade.

Did you actually try playing it? I redeemed the Bluray digital code years ago, which was only SD at the time. It’s showing under 4K in the TV app, and has the 4K badge in the Movies app, but playback is definitely not 4K.

In the iTunes Store, it’s asking me to buy it for $7.99 in HD/4K, but if I click “available in SD” that version has the cloud download icon.

Same thing happened with the Lord of the Rings when they released the 4K edition a few years ago. It was such a nice surprise when it quietly upgraded to the new version.

Everyone knows the most superior way to watch the best masterpiece by James Cameron is by watching Titanic on VHS!

If I’m correct there will be UHD releases in Q1 of 2024 of True Lies, Aliens and The Abyss. Digital releases in december ‘23.

So if you had already bought the film and they upgrade it, you don’t have to pay for the upgrade, right?
