Yup, that’s the Trojan Horse part of the meme. Good movie opens the gates for dozens of crummy copycat movies trying to take advantage of early 90s toy nostalgia.

If someone can make, for instance, a GI Joe film that demonstrates the dangers of imperialism and projecting military force in the name of “national security”, while wrapping it all up in a candy-coated action-adventure shell, I’m all for it. Or using Thundercats as a ploy for a message about colonialism and destruction of native civilizations, maybe?

I’m ready for the Mattel Cinematic Universe.

Let’s hide the conservative/capitalist brainwash deprogramming message into a cool movie about Hot Wheels, Polly Pocket and Mighty Max

It’s actually pretty sad that there are probably going to be some braindead Hollywood execs who completely missed the point of the movie and unironically pitch something like this.

If that was what they were going for they should have switched the Barbie and shit movie tags.

I agree. I just watched the movie.

I approve men as much as women, and ladies should have the same chances at the world. I knew I liked the movie as soon as I saw the trailer, though I don’t understand many of the controversial topics presented by it (I’m too simple 😂). I find it interesting that someone gets offended by the movie (constructive criticism is important, folks!).

I’m no perfect as a man and so ain’t the closest lady to me neither.

For those who are unaware, this is actually happening. Lena Dunham is directing and Lily Collins is starring.

Mattel is also in pre-producrion on Barney, Hot Wheels, and even Magic 8 Ball.

Magic 8 ball should be a 2000s era horror thriller.

Teenagers fate (played by obvious 30 year olds) is dictated by the results of a possessed ball. Signs point to Death 💀 in theaters, whenever.

Hot wheels should play it straight as a Racing movie but those damn orange loopty loop tracks, which again is so normal in that universe nobody brings it up. Wanna see some sick ass hot rods too.

Barney vs Godzilla. Let’s go. Will Love triumph over thunder?

Not joking - Magic 8 Ball is planned to be a PG-13 thriller from the writer of Cocaine Bear.

And JJ Abrams is doing Hot Wheels.

Oh - and Barney is supposed to be inspired by “Being John Malcovich” and be “A-24-esque”

Hell, the Garbage Pail Kids Movie came out in '87. This has been going on for decades.

Yeah there’s even very popular examples in recent history, the Lego movie series to name one. I haven’t seen them, but I think the general consensus about them is positive. Hopefully studios look to this and see the the success in the vision of the film maker and the statement of the art, rather than in the commercial name recognition from a popular toy.

Just wait until Unilever brings over to the big screen all that IP they have.

There’s canned goods, hygeine products, cleaning products, sauces and lots more…
