As for adding anything, this may be too advanced and could detract from what you have written for beginners, but might work as a second article: tips for linking across instances. For example:
- To link to a community so that it opens the reader’s local copy on their own instance, use the [email protected] format.
- To find your local instance’s copy of a linked comment or post in order to interact with it (comment, upvote, downvote, report, etc), search the linked URL string in your own instance’s search to find it.
2·9 天前From what I understand (and note that this is unsubstantiated, because we just simply don’t have the same size userbase/activity here), while lemmy is fairly good, piefed is supposedly even better.
Better in terms of lightness? I would be extremely surprised given the vast difference in performance and resource consumption of Python vs. Rust, and because apparently Piefed already has more features than Lemmy does. But maybe I misunderstood your point.

Do you have any thoughts on how the two compare in terms of resource utilization (CPU / RAM) given a similar number of users and activity?
I’ve been curious about this, because Rust, the programming language used for Lemmy, is supposed to be a LOT more CPU/RAM efficient than Python, the language used for Piefed. Python, on the other hand, is supposed to be much faster to initially develop in, which would at least partly explain how Piefed gained so many features so quickly compared to Lemmy.
Cool to see a Linux smartphone, but holy moly, what a terrible name!
4·11 天前Finally! It was completely ridiculous that this wasn’t done from the start. For those who don’t know, the Metro line used to be as close as less than a mile from the airport for decades. The story I read on the news was that someone was worried about the loss of parking revenue for the airport (/city?). Realize that this is also one of the most car-congested airports around, which totally fits with it belonging to one of the most car-congested cities.
- Completely flat chiclet keyboards on laptops. It drives me absolutely insane because I can barely tell if my fingers are aligned with the keys. Thanks, Apple!
- Hidden controls on desktop software or desktop websites (ex: hidden exit, forward, and back controls on picture galleries)
- Hiding or collapsing scrollbars on desktop software
In general, it seems like there’s a major trend in design of form beating the heck out of function. It looks pretty! Who cares if you can actually use it or not?

What do you mean? Don’t instances keep a local copy of images from other instances?
Aesthetic taste is so individual and relative though. Can you mention a 2D visual novel game that you consider to have better art so we understand your perspective? I personally like the art style of Summertime Saga quite a bit, and is what originally attracted me to it. I much prefer this style over the vast majority of hentai, just as an example.
