Competition is so rarely a thing though. The barriers to entry are significant enough that if you actually go through them all… why wouldn’t you just price shop and then charge about the same as your “competitors”? You don’t need to talk to effectively collude.
13·2 days agoThey can skip doing their homework without the immediate consequences of skipping their homework.
It doesn’t really matter whether it’s modern or intended or accidental. The point is that it’s best that the people making the decisions are educated and informed, and that takes time. That takes the kind of time that makes it a full time job, not one you can do on the side.
And yes, I understand that current representatives spend most of their time trudging up donations for campaigns, but that’s less than ideal. I might even argue that makes the idea not modern at all.

3·2 days agoI want to gloat about them because I want everyone who can get them to do so. With 2026 technology the majority of residential energy should be produced on site.
The other point of representative government is that the people making the decisions can spend the time to research what they’re voting on.
No one should live under 24/7 surveillance.
Some of the poorer reps were doing that and Congress decided they didn’t like it.
There’s also value in it being decentralized.
We don’t need the entire country to have a second home in DC and to be resistant to bribes.
Congress should make good enough money that they don’t need to invest in the stock market and they don’t care about negligible bribes. Bigger bribes are theoretically easier to catch in the legal system and/or public accountability.
2·3 days agoThat’s a lot of vibing. Typically for work stuff I’m directing and reviewing everything. (Not always though. I certainly vibe tests a little more.)
So you think you have a better chance of fighting religion as a whole than to get people to follow an idealized version of Christianity, the one that they advertise as when they want to be seen as a force for good.
Do I get to stress because my TV is selling summaries of my living room conversations to the GOP?
Do I get to stress because climate change has moved tornado alley into my county at the same time we’re destroying our ability to predict the weather?
When they try to steal the midterms, please.
