  • So do you think you’re helping people understand, by being jerks and finger pointing every time someone doesn’t 100 percent agree with every single thing you say? (Not YOU specifically, I’m talking some of the more angry, extreme people)

On Lemmy, just asking “Why?” gets people brigaded and yelled at.

Hey, you do you. I don’t care one way or the other. People can keep on doing screenshots and fingerpointing and yelling…but it won’t change minds or hearts doing it that way.

I’ve been on Lemmy long enough to realize that most on Lemmy don’t want to have nuance, or useful conversation. People here LIKE being mad.

Extremism is what brought most to Lemmy in the first place. Most LIKE the echo chamber. It will accomplish nothing though.

So hey, go about being mad, getting mad, and yelling. That won’t change opinions and that’s not the goal anyway.

  • ITT: Lemmy’s on high alert, scanning every post in this thread for the tiniest crack of nuance, hesitation, or less-than-100% agreement. The moment someone sounds even slightly conflicted or imperfectly aligned, the chorus leaps in with the sacred “transphobe!!” label like it’s a reflex. Then comes the frantic history dive of screenshots, out-of-context quotes… anything to sharpen the pitchforks and prove the heretic was always suspect.

I’m fine with transphobes being called out, but some in this thread are really stretching the meaning of the word. Can’t we all just try to get along?

It’s genuinely fascinating to watch. lol

  • Because the harsh reality is, and this seems to surprise Lemmy, the harsh reality is that most people in the US aren’t really bothered by it. That’s why, even when the protest crowds are big, nothing happens. Because they are still in the minority. Most people in the US, don’t even read news like this. They worry about bbq’s, mowing the lawn, paying their bills, and watching netflix.

Doomscrollers on Lemmy have a very skewed idea of how things actually work. They also seem to overlook how big the population of the US really is (roughly 348–349 million people) and how apathetic most people are.

I know that’s shocking to many on Lemmy. But look at the number of people watching even popular news programs. Then compare that to the actual population of the US.

Lemmy likes to think that there is gonna be some huge mass upswelling of people just shutting down everything. Remember when Luigi shot the insurance exec? Lemmy was laughing and thought everything was gonna change. Most of Lemmy thought his prison would be stormed and Luigi would be carried out free on the shoulders of protesters! And that the insurance companies would tremble in fear!!

But what really happened? Nothing. They replaced the insurance guy. Insurance is right back to doing what it has always done. Luigi will probably go to prison for rest of his life and in 10 years, most people will hardly remember him. (Even writing this, I wrote his name as “mario,” before I corrected it, and I don’t know his last name without looking it up.)

Man, most people in the US don’t care. I’m not giving my opinion on if that’s good or bad; I’m just giving you the facts: there will never be national strikes or shutdowns like you are talking about. If it hasn’t happened by now, it won’t. No matter what Lemmy thinks about it.
