With the amount of money that Elon Musk is worth, you could buy every NBA, NFL, MLS, NHL, MLB team in the US with enough leftover to also buy the top 20 European soccer teams.

351·1 day agoThis shit is bananas because I never hear the left say anything anti-Semitic.
But, i just saw a Trump supporter who was mad about Flock blame Jews for Flock.
Soooooooo yeah. The call is coming from inside the house.

Games@lemmy.world•Behold, "the whole story of Steam's economy in one picture": the top 1% of games earn 84.5% of estimated revenue, and most games barely make anythingEnglish
202·1 day agoArguably more striking is the rate of Steam’s growth. “Steam’s catalogue grew faster than its revenue,” the report says, and this has seen those earning extremes widen. A massive 19,714 games were released on Steam in 2024, and 2025 passed even that at 23,107.
Go back just five years and Steam looks very different with 7,427 games released in 2018 – more than even 2019, and the highest on record at the time. 2026 has already doubled that at 15,814 games released, and the year still has several busy months ahead of it.
How many of this are AI garbage? It seems like no coincidence that the number of games corresponds to the increased AI push.
I would love to know how this breaks down with you cut out all the slop products.

6·1 day agoI think they are or did also sue Apple Theaters even tho Apple Theaters was operating long before Apple TV.
It’s like the Buc-ees gas station suing an underwear company because they had a squirrel logo (Buc—ees logo is a beaver).

Today I Learned@lemmy.world•TIL Pop-Tarts are now lower quality than the old generic knock offsEnglish
7·2 days agoYup. Whatever the generic store brand is 1000% better. I tried both recently too and Pop Tarts were disappointing.
They do have more flavor options but that’s really it.

Technology@lemmy.world•Ubuntu is growing faster on Windows 11 than on native Linux PCs, says CanonicalEnglish
82·2 days agoA lot of negativity on using Ubuntu. I agree with the hate for Ubuntu but if i was trying ease my mom into Linux I would put her on something like this to begin with.
Ubuntu is a good starting point for people who aren’t comfortable on computers.
I don’t have to worry about it because of my numerous tpyos

Comic Strips@lemmy.world•but seriously this fast food situation is getting out of control [Tommy Siegel]
1·3 days agoYou can’t do an advance order without the app. Other restaurants allow you to order online. You can go into the restaurant and order, yes.
But the only way to get a “deal” is to use the app. Food is more expensive without it. Which is dumb.

53·3 days agoMcDonald is the only one that I’m aware of which won’t let you order without an app. For this reason I do not eat there.
EDIT: I mean advance ordering. You can’t place an order for pick up without their app.
You also pay more for food without the app.
There’s still a pay phone near me! Always know your exits in case of an emergency.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•California just passed a law forcing mandatory DRM in 3D printersEnglish
8·4 days agoThis is so stupid. This is written by people who don’t understand 3D printing. This will catch nothing but fake guns that don’t work because they were printed in one solid piece, it won’t catch all the little pieces that you assemble afterwards.

PC Master Race@lemmy.world•US Senate launches investigation into Roblox: 'Children on your platform are hurting. Congress will not look the other way'English
1·6 days agoI’m skeptical they will do anything besides fine Roblox or implement more gross age verifications.
Roblox does have a really big problem. I know a kid who met predators on Roblox.
Roblox is unlike other children’s games because it’s more like a chatroom with games rather than a game with chat. That coupled with the fact that 60% of the user base is under 16yo is dangerous.
Parents think it looks like Minecraft and assume that means it is safe, but it’s not.
Grooming happens on Roblox but the actual crimes take place in private Discord servers.

Same church, different person entirely. Also the person who restored the painting wasn’t a priest.
A lawyer for the priest said the charges were unrelated to the Ecce Homo incident.

Technology@lemmy.world•YouTube now requires creators to have twice as many watch hours to start earning moneyEnglish
1·7 days agoIn the beginning, YT was more like what you describe. It’s not anymore.
Where you are wrong is that it is Netflix now.
YT sees themselves as a competitor to Netflix. They have said this publicly. And Netflix is trying to compete with YT. They are actively managing it like Netflix without paying anyone for the “shows” that gets added to their streaming service.

Technology@lemmy.world•The Government is Monitoring Anti-Flock TikTok and Instagram AccountsEnglish
1·7 days agoI agree with @ji_reilly@lemmy.ml.
If it was a human that was reviewing all that footage, maybe but if it’s all automated by AI, especially as AI gets better, there is no noise. Only a camera logging everything you do in a searchable database.

I’m a Fedora user myself. It’s pretty well built but I’ve had a lot of issues especially with the Wayland stuff. That’s getting better for sure but Ubuntu has the type of tech support that older people are used to.
It’s probably still the most popular distro, still today, which means there are going to be more resources for them.
If my mom has to open the terminal, she’s going to give up and go back to windows.
