After Gov. Mikie Sherrill joined protesters at an immigration jail in New Jersey, the standoff grew tense, with ICE agents deploying pepper balls and spray.
In particular, ICE attacked Senator Kim. The NYT goes a very long ways towards trying to absolve them responsibility.
If ONLY there was SOMETHING the GOVERNOR could do to Access a Government Facility in Her state! Oh WELL! Just remember NOT to be Poor or you’ll go to Jail!
Federal facility. No support from local cops.
Call up the national guard. Walk up with 1000 troops in a battalion loaded for bear, or more civily, with “less lethal” armaments. Demand access or else. Follow through with the “or else” if they push you. Breach the walls with APCs or explosives, do what you need to do.
Force the constitutional crisis. Now is the time.
A governor doing that would get the national guard federalized and end up executed for treason. There’s a reason public officials call for nonviolent civil resistance
How would you know? Its never been done. 6 years ago I would have said the same about a violent insurrection at the capitol that almost derailed the lawful transfer of power, but instead all of those terrorists were pardoned and will be millionaires on our dime.
There is no way to know what would happen I’m the above case. That’s the constitutional crisis I’m recommending they force. Its entirely possible the people rally around the governor and instead push for real change, refusing to let the guard be federalized.
The only thing the feds can do then is bring the actual army in, and that broaches another constitutional crisis. Will they start an actual civil war, or will they buckle to the intense pressure of a unified people and actually relent to democracy?
I think they are bullies and cowards, and will absolutely buckle when it comes down to brass tacks. TACO didn’t come from nowhere, its his observed behavior. You have to hit a bully to make them stop, so hit we need to start hitting them, not talking about it.

I’m not talking about civilian revolt in the above. I’m talking about a governor mobilizing the national guard, doing what’s right, and building public support by doing it.
These people are cowards who use bluster to disarm action. They want you talking instead of doing. We need to stop that and start swinging.
