There is no reason to consider one’s political party in local elections, if they are even a part of one, in local elections. Large social and economic issues simply do not matter for small positions such as city council or mayor. If you’re part of a large city such as NYC then sure but the vast majority of us aren’t. By the way, this only applies to the US because of our “wonderful” 2 party system.
My opinion would be that people should not even be declaring a party when running for local offices.
But of course party can make a difference. Think of a sheriff that doesn’t believe in gun control, or a supervisor that doesn’t support low income housing.
@dan1101 Or a school board that wants to teach the “benefits” of slavery, or an antivaxxer that’s in charge of the health department, or a city council that wants to run things “like a business” and winds up endangering citizens health by de-regulating environmental and water regulations to cut costs.
