TV show prequel based on one of the first reboot Star Wars movies. It follows revolutionaries that dealt blows to the empire prior to A New Hope.

I thought it was incredible because it’s probably the only piece of mainstream media that actually depicts revolution as lethal and ugly, but written well. You don’t just stroll into the halls of power with goofy antics and have sword fights. There are stakes and people die without a warning or even a memorial. You kill, you steal, you make strange alliances, people are betrayed. There may not be “good guys” but there is a good side and it’s undebatable. It shows the cruelty of the occupation forces and there’s no question about whether they deserve to be killed.

Of course, any side can claim “it’s not black and white” when committing crimes and whatnot. But the creators have explicitly said they were inspired by leftist movements, events, and people for the show (although some of it are based on lib accounts of the subject). The protagonist is basically Stalin lol. One of his comrades has a manifesto that’s basically Lenin. Some of the movements are also based on the IRA.
