The allergy, called alpha-gal syndrome, came to light a little over a decade ago.

      On a related note, the pigs used for the recent transplant testing lack alpha-gal and can be eaten!

      Most likely, you wouldn’t. I’ve had people say that to me about celiac disease (as in, no gluten aka wheat/barley/rye). Maybe not, but I’d guess you have more to live for than eating red meat.

        As someone who has trialed both gluten-free and low FODMAP diets, among others, to try to determine the source of digestive problems: gluten-free is not that bad. Low FODMAP, however…

          Yeah, that’s even more restrictive because it’s such a large list of vegetables. The effects of screwing it up are not quite as severe as celiac, though. Either one makes most restaurants or food other people cook really difficult.

      As I recall you can die from some of the diseases they carry, so just let it sit and hope for the worst.
