Why YSK: It will start working faster if you give it a sec.

This is a bug in iOS Progressive Web Apps. Your scrolling gets locked to an element that is off the screen. Continuing to try to scroll while it’s in this locked state keeps it in the state longer. No interactions for one second will unlock it.

wefwef are tracking the issue here.

Yeah I was trying to figure out patterns on what got it to work again. I normally scroll on the left of my screen, so first I thought scrolling on the right of the screen got it working. So I started doing that instantly when I had the issue, and of course that stopped working. Then I thought scrolling in the middle fixed it, and the cycle continued.

Eventually I found the wefwef dev mention the bug. Turned out I just needed to take a breath!

Yeah, that was pretty sad to see. Hopefully the talented wefwef devs can figure out a work around.

Thanks for the info! This is probably the most annoying bug in wefwef right now for me. Good to know the devs are aware and working on something. <3

It’s pretty good and my main complaint is that the keyboard is kinda busted in telegram and less often in sometimes other apps. Basically what happens is the keyboard will cover the ui including the text box. It’s very annoying and is why I can’t recommend anyone try iOS 17 as of yet. Beta 3 might be released today so hopefully it gets fixed

Also speaking of the keyboard, I had a more annoying bug a couple of time. Basically, my lockscreen has an alphanumeric password and in a couple of occasions the keyboard would never pop up, so I had to reboot my phone :/

But it’s overall pretty stable for a beta.

Yeah keyboard is the buggiest part of iOS 17 beta so far. Beta 3 dropped a few hours ago, and I can’t say the keyboard is any better. But maybe it’ll help the issue you are having I hope.

One more question, does the new Standby mode only work when then phone is propped upright, or does it also work if the phone is face up and flat on a table?

It needs to be propped on its side while charging. It also wont stay on the whole night. You can tap the screen or even double tap your nightstand and it will wake up the phone in standby mode.

Another fix: Drag all comments (or posts) from left-to-right in an oscillating motion, and this seems to “unstuck” the vertical scrolling. I think what’s happening is that a given comment (or post) is getting stuck ~1 pixel off-center, so the app assumes you’re still focusing on the comment’s horizontal scroll pane (rather than the overall page’s vertical scroll pane).

TestFlighting Mlem on iOS will give you a much better, native experience for using Lemmy on mobile.

I thought the same until I used Wefwef, have you tried it?

Mlem doesn’t have iPad support yet. The app opens in a tiny letterbox view, with the sides of the screen not usable, so it isn’t currently a good solution for me.

Memmy is my second favourite after wefwef. It’s more feature rich, but I like the design of wefwef much better on iPad.

It’s exciting to have all these amazing apps in rapid development.
