      I’m sorry, what makes you say this is spam?

      Is it because nobody else is posting here? Am I a spammer because I’m the only one trying to share anything? Should I leave it to the once-a-month posts about nothing instead?

      Or is it because these are clothes a person could purchase, and the possibility that pieces of our culture might be bought automatically makes every conversation about that culture an ad?

      People in fashion spaces talk about lookbooks. This is one of the lookbooks people are talking about. If you don’t like it, you might not be interested in fashion, and might not want to spam communities with your vapid complaints.

        It would probably be more engaging with some light commentary on the lookbook. As it stands this just looks like an ad for Target.

        Let’s start off with you referring to yourself as part of the company: “We are proud to unveil”. Let’s continue with the fact that you’re not saying, “Hey, this blazer looks cool”; instead, you’re promoting an entire product line, including “outdoor games, and home decor”. And finally, let’s note that you’re explicitly saying “available at Target stores across the U.S. on September 23rd”, meaning (unless you do work for one of these companies), you haven’t even handled any of these items yet. You don’t know the fit, the feel, the quality, anything other than “Gee, that looks interesting”.

        You want to post to help a quiet sub, great. But if the only thing you really know is that something looks interesting, maybe you should just say “Hey, I saw this and it looked interesting”, instead of everything you actually said. If you want to avoid being called a spammer, maybe you should avoid sounding like a company shill.

          You know that summary got pulled automatically from the site when I pasted the link into the field, right?

          Let’s continue with the fact that you’re not saying, “Hey, this blazer looks cool”; instead, you’re promoting an entire product line, including “outdoor games, and home decor”.

          I’m not promoting anything. I shared a link to a lookbook.

          Are you not capable of looking for yourself and forming your own opinions? Do I need to break down the history and meaning of Rowing Blazers in order to post a damn lookbook? If you’re curious—and I know you’re not—I’d recommend listening to Jack Carlson’s episode of Handcut Radio.

          You also commented literally two minutes after I posted. You didn’t wait and see if I had something to say about the lookbook, you instantly complained.

          Some menswear brands do things other than menswear. Culture is often a multi-faceted thing. ALD collaborates with Porsche. I know a menswear brand that sells replicas of stolen ashtrays.

          Yes, this is a thing people do, they share lookbooks for clothes that look interesting and then they talk about those clothes. Every fucking fashion community includes people sharing lookbooks, and almost all of those lookbooks come out before the clothes are actually available. Do I think target-made clothing is going to be super high quality? No. Do I think it’s an interesting option for people on tighter budgets to consider? Yes. Could you not figure that out? Did I need to explain it to you?

          I didn’t say anything, I posted a lookbook with the summary pulled direclty from the site. If you think lookbooks are spammy, you might want to try contributing something better yourself instead of whining.

            Maybe instead of letting the summary auto-pull the advertising copy from the site, you could either blank out that field, or add your own comments, ones that might elicit a reaction from the reader - “hey, what do you think of Rowing Blazers new line”, “I really like the look of this item, do you see anything you like”, etc. Because when you just drop a link with a bunch of advertising copy and no comments - well, yes, that’s exactly the kind of thing that spammers do.

              I’m not going to write a custom summary for a community with two active users for every article I post during a work day. If people here had any thoughts on anything so far, you’d see them commenting on things without being told to comment on things. And I don’t think it would be better to just leave the summary blank, not sure who that would help.

              Spammers don’t usually bother with the fediverse, and definitely not on communities this small. Nobody else thought this was spam. You’re just some paranoid weirdo. If you don’t like reading the summaries brands write about their lookbooks, you don’t have to. If you don’t like seeing people post lookbooks at all, you might want to crawl back into the hole you came out of, because fashion clearly isn’t something you’re ready to participate in.
