The Ottawa Citizen is American owned media pretending to be Canadian, infiltrating Canadian culture and politics.
The owner tweeted that Canada isn’t a real country.
Why the fuck does no one have any backbone anymore?
Why is this so hard to do? 🤦🏾♀️
-
Councilors have established followings on Twitter. They don’t want to recreate them elsewhere.
-
Journalists loooooooove Twitter. Councilors want to be where the journalists are.
-
It’s a culture war battle.
- Is ass backwards: journalists covering the city have to be where the councillors are, or they have nothing to write about. Our councillors are kind of pathetic, really…
This is less cultural and more existential IMO:
Posting on that site is straight up Anti-Canadian and I will die on this hill.
tell your city councillor
Anybody have the list of which councillors voted for/against?
The article lists those who spoke for/against, but I don’t think it has the full list.
The minutes should be available online.
“It failed by a vote of five yeas to seven nays, with Dudas and couns. Glen Gower, Rawlson King, Jeff Leiper, and Shawn Menard voting in favour. Mayor Mark Sutcliffe and couns. Matt Luloff, Cathy Curry, Tim Tierney, Riley Brockington, David Brown, and Catherine Kitts voted against the motion”
I will be emailing my councillor, David Brown, and voicing my displeasure.
@Lemmyoutofhere @sbv Brockington almost always disappoints. The odd time he manages to pick the right side and he missed once again.
Oh I messaged them and the mayor.

At least get on mstdn.ca
How is the time IMO to make the wholesale switch for all government entities. Canada is more unified against the existential threat of the US than ever. Let’s fucking go already.
Is it too hard to expand your reach by also opening a bluesky and Mastodon account and crosspost?
So you’re telling me there’s
a chancestill time to spin up an @ottawa.ca mastodon instance.@veeesix @Cracks_InTheWalls I think my admin is willing to help the city soon up an instance.
That’d be awesome, but I’m not holding my breath on it being something Suxcliffe pays any mind to.
I’m just dreaming now, but what I’d love to see is the City enter a partnership with a non-profit like National Capital Freenet to set up and maintain the technical infrastructure for federated communication tools. But a) don’t know if that’s something NCF is interested in or even has the capacity to support, and b) it’s never gonna happen anyway.
That’s awesome. Looking forward to it.
@veeesix Well, you know the mayor right? He doesn’t do the right thing ever.
I mistakenly read “willing” as though it was an option they were considering 😮💨 Damn these rose tinted glasses…
@veeesix They are willing but the city is run by an idiot that only grifts money to a corporation is8 that’s an option. No grift means no action.
We do have mstdn.ca already at least.
I’d love to see Mastodon take off, but until it increases its utility for journalists (and influencers) it’s going to be hard to replace other microblogging apps.
“We’re fine hanging out in the Nazi bar, actually”
It’s pretty disappointing. There’s lots of other channels to communicate city matters, X is unnecessary even if it wasn’t a cesspool.
