Thanks for creating the post :-)

This was a very Perrin-centric episode. I have to admit, even in the books his story arch never really catched on to me. Still, there were some great moments in this episode as well.

    Likes:

    • The villagers’ song. I love that we get a catchy song in every episode now. (Edit: Its not new but the atmosphere was perfect)
    • In general, how they handled the fight scenes as well as the training of the villagers.
    • Faile: So much better than the books. Same with her relationship with Perrin.
    • Really glad they got rid of Dain Bornhold, who thought Perrin was a dark friend. Never made much sense, and everything could still happen as known if he just hates him because of his father.
    • Bain and Chiad. Their style, their behavior, their comments, everything. Together they are my secret favorites this season.
    • The two river set is still great and the landscape shots fit perfectly into how I imagined the area years ago.

    Dislikes:

    • Would have liked to see more Trollocs, less dark friends in the battles.
    • The death of Loial. I just don’t see a reason for him not to be in the later seasons. Of course, it could be another Fake death, but I would dislike that even more. The high numbers if this is still one of my top criticisms of the show.

I’m glad your list of likes is longer than the dislikes. Maybe I am just being a big curmudgeon about it but…

It feels like a lot of the streamlining that they are doing here is because they expect to have to wrap this thing up in 4-5 seasons. If that is the case they are likely to be tempted to grab things from much later books and skip them forward. In order to do that they are going to start amputating plotlines. Between the amputations and the cauterisation of what is kept so it doesn’t rely on the missing tissue… I think it’s going to get a whole lot more distressing for book fans.

The wheel of time series is what sparked my love for reading. I feel like I have to watch it, even though I know it’s pretty bad. The scenery is decent enough.

If I had any sense I would stop hate watching this show. Had to convince myself that this is just a completely seperate turning of the wheel where everyone has been huffing paint.

    So they:

    spoiler
    • nerfed Padan Fain (so many knock on effects from skipping previous story beats)
    • apparently decided Loial has had a good enough run
    • Alanna got penetrated again
    • decided to skip the rest of Eamon Valdas character arc
    • started Lord Perrin off with a whimper, not a bang
    • made Arams concious and quite wrenching rejection of the only way of life he has ever known into a scrambled impulse decision
    • forgot that Tam existed
    • since they made Abell Cauthon into a drunken lecherous arsehole looks like two of Perrins most valuable officers have just been written out as well
    • Alanna doesn’t believe in sending girls with the spark to the White Tower now? Really? I guess since training is now optional and anyone can just pick it up over a weekend it’s not that important right?
    • So are they going to bother with Lord Luc (I mean they cast him and he has had 2 lines of dialogue so…), will we meet Slayer, or are they going to drop that storyline as well?

If this show hits Season 6 I predict things will have shifted so much that we may literally start to see entirely different franchises showing up, maybe we will see who they cast as Pug, or Belgarath.

My wife is thinking about getting me a bell for besides the couch.

It really is a love/hate for me: on one hand, I love seeing my favorite scenes (Rhuidean, for example) brought to life by a clearly talented cast. On the other hand, the writing is completely haphazard. Inexplicable changes that add no value and aren’t even tied in to the larger plot and character development, sloppy relationship building…somehow these show writers wrote a less convincing early relationship for Perrin and Faile than Jordan himself, and that’s saying something lmfao. I feel like book readers need some group therapy to process this mess LOL
