Looks like 50501 has been infiltrated by the opposition. I don’t know what’s true here, but it sounds like some fuckery.
SOP for Reddit. I was on antiwork before the user influx. Watched in real time as bad-faith actors undermined everything, starting and perpetuating arguments.
If any of the 50501 mods end up on Fox News, you’ll know it’s too late.
I’m starting to wonder if this is the reason Trump et al have had so little to say about the movement. Maybe they were counting on it imploding at some point. Who knows if they had info we don’t.
Calling attention to it legitimizes it. Trump does a LOT of talking, a lot of griping. The vast majority of it is whining at shadows and strawmen, made up versions of enemies that can be talked out of existence as easily as they were talked into it.

I’ve taken the liberty of backing up all relevant posts involving Evolved_Fungi using screenshots and reddit backup sites.
Without making another post that gets too far into the weeds: I’d recommend everyone be very cautious regarding any PACs claiming to represent 50501 on a national level in the near future. We are supposed to be decentralized, so any such maneuvers would need dramatic transparency, which I am not terribly hopeful for at this point in time. Donate LOCALLY first and foremost. The local level is the most actionable level for individuals. The goals of the movement haven’t changed and never will change, regardless of who has the reins at the top. That’s the beauty of a decentralized movement.
I’m not an insider, so I don’t know anything that hasn’t been posted. But I’m invested in the movement; I’ve been protesting at 50501 events since the first one on 2/5.
Here’s what I think:
- 50501 needs to accept donations, so having a 503© to manage transparency is necessary.
- Whatever the facts, fungi’s recent posts are indicative of a person struggling with their mental health.
- The fact that some of these bizarre posts are still pinned to a paused sub shows complete disfunction by whoever controls it now, whatever the reason or excuse. It is doing damage to our cause.
I did join s/50501 movement. Don’t know if they’re in the right or what, but at least it’s open, so I can form a judgement.
I’m sad for everyone involved.
I will be out there on 5/1 with millions of you. Fighting trumpism is the mission. I won’t lose my focus on that. I’m just looking for allies and effective means toward that end.
I’m not an insider, so I don’t know anything that hasn’t been posted.
But I’m invested in the movement; I’ve been protesting at 50501 events since the first one on 2/5.It seems the one thing everyone agrees on is that the movement is people like yourself — thinking in terms of insiders is risky and should be avoided. Nobody is a bigger part of this than you are. You’re simply not a Reddit mod, and that might be a good thing.
Moving on:
- Does it really? I guess some funding is needed for some infrastructure, but I would think funding should be decentralized just like the movement. I don’t think it’s in the interest of the movement that large sums of money are handled centrally. If server costs for sites like https://fiftyfifty.one/ or https://50501.chat/ needs to be covered the people behind them can fundraise directly for that purpose. Beyond that it’s a protest movement, not a political campaign, and money always makes things more complicated. I could be wrong here, but I (of course) think I’m right.
- If the user’s story holds up I think most people would experience a mental health episode going through it, so I wouldn’t necessarily hold that against them. The lack of transparency along the way is understandable in a way, but much more problematic in my opinion.
- It’s certainly not a great situation. I love the potential of 50501 paired with the Fediverse, and how the movement can be decentralized in a techincal sense throughout several platforms without hindering communication.
Keep up the good fight! :)
Thanks. You too. ✊🇺🇸
How disheartening…. At least 50501 has activated people across the nation to build a movement. I’m sure they will find a new home if 50501 melts down.
Hope the creators/ mods have the self awareness to go to a left leaning media presence and get some basic media training before telling all. We don’t need a repeat of r/antiwork.
If some PAC or NP wants to be the face the movement, we should vote on it and they should be transparent. There is good reason to have a PAC and NP at the national level, especially for funding. They’ve poisoned the well at this point though. It so sad because this could have been done amicably in good faith with transparency.
After having combed through all the relevant posts and comments, including deleted ones, it is clear to me that this was a power grab.
Whether or not it was done with the best interests of 50501 in mind remains to be seen. My read on the situation doesn’t have high hopes for that. Now would be the time to refocus on the local level. We are supposed to be decentralized; this movement is more than the couple of asshats at the top.
Is a screenshot of a bunch of screenshots really the best way to present this?
No.
