Pope Leo XIV on Monday called for the release of imprisoned journalists and affirmed the “precious gift of free speech and the press” in an audience with some of the 6,000 journalists who descended on Rome to cover his election as the first American pontiff.

Thank God he’s not a fascist.

That’s right. I’m relieved the leader of the largest Jesus Christ following religion isn’t a fascist. Because sometimes they are.

Humans suck. But I’ll take a win when we can get it.

Talk is cheap. It’s very easy for him to say these thing. It’s much harder for him to do anything about it.

On the other hand, he could do something about the child exploitation that’s going on in his church.

How do we know that he isn’t? Musk proclaims a love of free speech and is a fascist. Trump has repeatedly spoken out against wars, but his wars are OK in his book.

Let’s not celebrate until we’ve crossed the river.

Judging by his track record I think he will largely continue Francis’ legacy. Perhaps a bit more conservative than Francis, but I’ve found his statements encouraging for the most part. He’s criticized both JD and Trump in the past, and he seems to be focusing on the more positive Christian teachings like caring for the poor rather than the fire and brimstone wing
