Discord only does this cause they like money. But no tech company ever will add any personalosation beyond the minumum unless they can charge an absurd amount for it. Now, lemmy won’t change that either, since it is a simple but reliable kind off software. We have to wait till Piefed implements it, and Pifed proves itself relieable enough to switch our instances over to it to get personalisation.
