Upon filing for unemployment he learned he was misclassified as a independent contractor and became the center of a lawsuit between the DOL and his old employer. He ultimately got unemployment benefits and a severance btw
They are tax forms, a W2 is an employee (basically) and a 1099 (usually -NEC) is a contractor.
