A media-obsessed private security cyborg, calling itself Murderbot, must hide its newly acquired autonomy, while completing dangerous assignments and being simultaneously drawn to humans and appalled at their weakness.
I like it. Alexander Skarsgard is hilarious and the other guys are weird. I haven’t read the books but the story seems wicked interesting so far.
I read the first book but it missed the mark with me. My friends would disown me for saying this, but I honestly think the show is better
I haven’t watched it yet but I love the books. They’re biting and funny without being too heavy.
I’m glad to hear the show is good, I was worried with how masc of an actor they had play murderbot (in the books it lacks any sex characteristics).
He is great and they have very clearly shown it’s an it. I read Martha Wells was consulted right throughout the process and it shows - the series is based on All Systems Red (hence short episodes!) and IMHO all the changes they’ve made for a TV format have worked pretty well and kept to the overall vibe.
What’s with the big gap on this page?
Tried saving page again but gap doesn’t go away.

This was my big fear in hiring the dude who played Tarzan. Murderbot is decidedly gender neutral - it’s one of its most prominent descriptive features. Stellan looks male.
I think Alexander mostly pulls it off. SecUnit’s internal monologue is a bit flat but overall I get the impression of a genderless being.
I think the other characters come off as a bit too goofy. There also doesn’t seem to be as much tension as I remember from the books. Only a few episodes in so maybe things will pick up.
