I(mid 30s dude) am seeing this lady(mid 30s lady), we have different political opinions and talk pretty openly about it. It’s interesting, she voted for Trump, was homeschooled/raised christian, very nationalistic and buys his crypto alongside some other crypto, I bought the Communist manifesto while hanging out with her and express all of my opinions boldly. No issues so far, literally.
However over the last few months I’ve realized a theme in her beliefs, they’re all fringe and fake. She wants to go to a chiropractor, she loves the military and believes Trump is a good guy. She dislikes vaccines and believes in psuedo quack medicine yet smokes and vapes. She’s an absolute fool and I know it stems from her homeschooling.
Now I have a pretty strong grasp of history and when we discuss the stuff she doesn’t understand I find just talking about the history makes her think at least slightly different. But obviously that isn’t gonna work long term.
Now I care about this person, I’m not head over heels in love or anything but I don’t want her to be this stupid. I dunno how to flat out tell her, “hey your education was poor and it shows,” how do you tell someone they’re very ignorant in a way that they can put it together themselves. Honestly truly, how?
But it tells you quite a lot, doesn’t it?
Not really. What it tells me is that she is uneducated and it’s pretty easy to inform someone of stuff. She’s never freaked out discussing stuff because truthfully most people aren’t as insane as you all try to project. You don’t go outside and don’t socialize outside of a very sad bubble if you think politics matter this much to everyone.
I reiterate, touch fuckin grass.
Listen wise guy, you’re telling a lot of people you don’t know to go touch grass, some of whom were maybe in a similar situation, some of whom actually have to live with mostly extreme far right wingers and know how deep the indoctrination goes, and that’s very polite and mature of you to tell all these people who didn’t come here to personally give you shit, to go touch grass.
Instead I’m going to give you shit, you really think she’s “a queer black woman with working class values”?, she voted for an insane asshole that’s threatening to use “tactical nukes” in iran right now, constantly hurts families in the US, especially anyone who isn’t white and god help me do i need to mention whatever the fuck is happening with ICE??? Shit and that’s just the start of his second term, meaning she had an entire first term to listen to the news. Quite the show of working class solidarity you got there.
Another commenter said you have a serious decision to make, i think you first need a hard look in the mirror to think about what you actually stand for.
