Hi, Kaiser is saying that I’ll be covered under their disability insurance plan but they said it’s against their policy to send a proof of insurance letter.
I don’t feel comfortable without a proof of insurance letter, I’d like to have evidence before I turn 26 years old.
The Release Of Information department at Kaiser said that I should be receiving documentation through the mail about me being covered under the disability insurance plan but I haven’t received anything in the mail.
Kaiser has only provided a verification code that I can’t use, only Kaiser can.
My main worry right now is that Kaiser is going to say that I’m not covered under insurance when I turn 26 years old and I won’t have a proof of insurance letter for evidence. My birthday is soon.
What do I do?
Thanks.
Since I’m an american treading in here, I’ll speak from that experience. I searched Kaiser and only found the US-based HMO, so I’ll assume that’s what you’re referring to. My personal experience says that they’re balking because they have nothing to give. I’m under the impression that they have no obligation to cover you past the age of 25 and as such will drop you like a bad habit. To my knowledge, disability qualification doesn’t change that. I could be wrong but at the very least I think you should press them harder for proof.
Call support and try to get to a person, tell them what you want, and go from there. That’s worked for me in similar scenarios and should either get you what you want, or make it demonstrably clear that they won’t give what you’re requesting.
Kaiser has been talked to already many times and the response is either a “No.” or wait 2 weeks for an answer.
I’ll arrange another phone call to them maybe but it seems like they’re going to keep refusing me.
Would filing a complaint be an option?
If the complaint doesn’t work, should I get a lawyer?
Thank you.
No problem. Those depend on your locale, if you’re in the UK or Canada I’m unfamiliar with their systems and don’t want to hazard a guess. If you’re in the US though, I would speak with an attorney if you have the privilege of being able to pay for their time. They should tell you if/where to submit a complaint and any further steps from there. If you can’t afford an attorney, I would research the relevant federal laws on removal from parents insurance, they may help give you the answer of if Kaiser is legally required to continue covering you. If they’re not legally required to, and they won’t give any kind of confirmation even when pushed, I would prepare to not be covered and start looking at other options.
Additionally, social workers should be able to help navigate this. If you’re in contact with a case manager/caseworker of some kind for your disability, I recommend asking them first if they have any resources or knowledge, before attorneys or anything.
I have OCD and a treatable brain tumor if you guys are curious, Cabergoline medication shrinks my brain tumor. I’m a 25 year old male.
I’m unsure with my diagnosis of my brain tumor. Kaiser say it’s a Prolactinoma but my test results says otherwise, I could be wrong. I’m requesting further testing for my brain tumor and Kaiser is refusing. I feel like I might have a Plurihormonal adenoma. It seems like I’m showing symptoms of Cushing’s disease. This is a whole other issue that I want resolved but my health insurance is most important right now.
I have a dust mite allergy too, I thought I had asthma and I found out later that I’m allergic to dust mites. Kaiser did a really poor job finding out if I had a dust mite allergy. I found out after I knocked on every door in my neighborhood and after I volunteered to be hospitalized at a psych ward because I thought that would be a safer option than risking an asthma attack at home. Kaiser called the cops on me because I was demanding an asthma test. Everyone thought that I was crazy. I’m seeing an allergist soon. I’m not happy with Kaiser and I lost my trust with Kaiser.
Back on the subject with my health insurance, my mom is employed by Kaiser and that’s how I have health insurance. My dad mentioned about paying my insurance out of pocket to stay covered when I turn 26 years old just in case Kaiser refuses to have me covered with insurance, my dad says it’s like a safety net, is this an option? My dad says that it’ll give us more time in case Kaiser refuses to have me covered with insurance when my birthday comes around and we can maybe pursue a lawyer, will this make it so I’m still eligible for disability insurance if I turn 26 years old? My birthday is on August 7th.
In the meantime, I think I want to find a social worker outside the Kaiser network. I live in Washington state and I found this. I found this facility through the website. Will I be able to get a social worker this way?
I think I need to get a lawyer, what do you guys think?
My mom seems to believe that I’m going to be covered under insurance when I turn 26 years old by Kaiser and she doesn’t want to get a lawyer.
My dad seems like he wants to get a lawyer, not really sure.
It seems like Kaiser doesn’t want to send me a proof insurance letter in the mail.
Kaiser seems like they’re not going to cover me with insurance when I turn 26 years old.
If you can, get the lawyer.
They have all the power. Have you considered getting your own insurance? If you work full time I think employers are required to offer you some
My condition effects my ability to have a job, getting my own insurance doesn’t seem like an option right now.
Thanks for your response.
In that case, consider talking to a social worker in your area. Social security disability insurance and medicaid might be accessible to you.
