laughs in GrapheneOS
This misunderstands the announcement completely.
What the announcement is saying is: previously, if you wanted Gemini to have access to text and chat apps, you also needed to enable Gemini Apps Activity, i.e. the feature that saves all Gemini interactions to the cloud. Now, the settings to enable or disable app access from history tracking are fully separate, so you can have app access enabled (if you want) even if the Apps Activity feature is disabled.
Hey, you’re getting in the way of everyone’s FUD against Google!
hey, maybe you should err on the side of starting out with the idea that google; who famously removed “Don’t be evil” from their corporate mantra, is upto no good? of course it doesn’t hurt to verify… but you seem to suggest we should start and stop our thinking with “look at my poor boy google who wouldn’t hurt a fly!”
I’m not even saying that Google’s data collection is innocuous. I’m just saying that this post is incorrect in its claim that Google is letting Gemini access your apps even if you try to turn that access off. Just because Google does some nefarious things doesn’t mean you can’t think critically about actual specific actions they take.
It’s cool how someone downvoted the explanation without explaining why they think I’m mistaken.
Seems like you can turn it off if you don’t want it though…
That doesn’t have anything to do with the announcement.
Seems like
Fucking nazi company…
don’t use Google
It’s truly difficult for me to summon empathy for people who support evil companies and then get upset when the evil company they support does evil things.
Time to downgrade to no phone at all weeee.
If you have a pixel, graphene os is really good, very easy to install, and doesn’t have any AI bloat. I’ve been using it for a few months now and cannot recommend it enough.
