I imagine that the long term plan is for the states to eventually declare pages about sex ed, abortion, LGBTQ+ issues, or anything else they don’t like as topics that are detrimental for youth to be exposed to and to require age verification to visit them. Then, they will start buying the accumulated ID data of people visiting such pages from data brokers. Even if they don’t buy up the data, the risk of having them do so would keep people from visiting those pages with is the real end game after all. Consider, if you are in Texas, would you provide your ID to visit an abortion or LGBTQ+ web site no matter how secure and private the age verification system is alleged to be?
