A senior judge recommends a shake-up of the system, but some barristers argue juries are essential for fair justice.

Just casually removing the right to be judged by a panel of your peers.

It’s getting people who are willing and able to do it. It’s surprisingly hard.

That’s interesting. You just get paid time off work to sit and play on your phone in a foyer most of the time.

          No you don’t.

You get paid some money, you don’t get paid your normal salary. Is basically only an advantage if you work at McDonald’s, If you’re lucky your work will let you take it as holiday and still pay you themselves, but I don’t think they’re under any requirement to.

“Paid time off work” =/= time off work at your normal pay. There is a very significant drop in income for most people, down to £70 per day, which is £10 an hour if you work 9-5 with a 1 hour lunch or £7 an hour if you normally work 10 hour days. That last one is less than the under 18 minimum wage.

General community for news/discussion in the UK.

Less serious posts should go in [email protected] or [email protected]
More serious politics should go in [email protected].

Try not to spam the same link to multiple feddit.uk communities.
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think “reputable news source” needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.
