I see a lot of people without shelter when I ride my bike at night, and I want to at least stop to make sure they have food and water. To this end I’m trying to figure out the best food items to bring. Ideally it would be something nutritious, filling and tasty with no preparation needed. So far I’m thinking of those prepackaged grocery store sandwiches, which are actually pretty good. Also, as much as we all hate plastic, pre-sealed has the benefit of the recipient not having to worry as much about some sick fuck giving them a poisoned sandwich.
Any suggestions, tips and info are extremely welcome.
Cold water is always good. I loved getting a bottle of cold water kicked down. Beef jerky is a favorite of mine. Cans of soup, bags of crackers. I also liked Starbucks gift cards. Even if you just put enough for a single cup of plain coffee on a few cards and handed them out, it gives them a reason to go in Starbucks and use a clean bathroom and charge a phone if they have one.
Ooh, good point!
Also, it’s not food… but socks. Clean socks fucking rock when you’re homeless
