    TLDW: There’s a jungle in Panama that’s really hard to cross and if they made it easier to cross refugee would be more inclined to enter Panama.

    Does Panama want to spend a bunch of money to destroy a rainforest, destroy indigenous peoples villages, deal with people who likely can’t afford to support themselves, and also potentially aid narcos in trafficking?

      And it isn’t like the current ferry service is seen as a major bottleneck for shipping. There is some light trade that could be facilitated by a road, but the major trading partners in the region are likely to ship by boat.
