At 30K the batteries do seem expensive, I think there are some companies reusing old Toyota Prius or similar for about 7k stripping out what they need to power and drive a self-made EV and selling off the rest for scrap. The question then is why not simply buy and keep the old Toyota. Me personally, I love the idea of creating my own vehicle with the ability to stick solar panels on it. A boxy van would be just perfect.

    What an insanely cool story!

The only thing I wonder is if keeping that many batteries (8000 was it?) Is a fire or chemical spill risk. I hope he inspects them regularly.

I can’t see why we don’t have Australian companies making cheap electric cars. Do they think no one will buy them?

I’d love to buy a cheap, new, electric car but at the rate i’m going i’ll never buy a new car of any sort, let alone the prices they want for the most available electric cars.

I suppose >$30,000 isn’t exactly my kind of cheap though.
