Why is it important? Hamas has vowed not to lay down its arms until the Israeli occupation ends, but meanwhile Netanyahu has activated gangs that challenge their leadership.

Despite the ceasefire signed between Hamas and Israel, the armed conflict in the Gaza Strip is far from over . In fact, a civil war is raging between militias vying to replace the Islamic Resistance Movement. Most striking is that many of these militias are financed by Benjamin Netanyahu , who uses them to weaken his enemy. This same tactic was employed by the terrorist group to overthrow Arafat and seize power in the Gaza enclave.

Specifically, there are four militias operating on the other side of the Yellow Line, led by Yasser Abu Shabab, Hossan Al-Astal, Rami Haias, and Ashraf Al-Mansi . All of them and their groups are known in the Gaza Strip for their criminal history and drug trafficking.

However, a rather revealing fact is that Netanyahu has openly acknowledged supporting them to weaken Hamas . “We activate clans in Gaza that oppose Hamas, what’s wrong with that?” the Israeli prime minister stated in a video. Precisely for this reason, Ghassan Al-Khatib, a professor of International Studies at Birzeit University, explained that these groups “are not accepted by public opinion due to their cooperation and collaboration with the Israeli occupation.”

According to media outlets such as the BBC and CNN, Al-Astal has been collaborating with Israel since the 1990s . In one of his videos, he acknowledged that they have “international friends” who support them “in everything, whether with money, weapons, or food .” Furthermore, he has repeatedly threatened Hamas. “Whoever kills a Hamas member gets 50 dollars,” he stated in one of his recordings.

Meanwhile, Abu Shabab was trying to recruit civilians and doctors by offering salaries of up to $1,500. However, he was killed by Hamas earlier this month, and his death was celebrated with sweets in the Gaza Strip. What particularly pained Gazans was that while they suffered the effects of famine, Abu Shabab was driving around in vans overflowing with supplies.

However, the old tactic of supporting the enemy of the enemy is what allowed Hamas to overthrow Yasser Arafat in the Gaza government.
