Welcome to my ninth semester and I apologize for posting this so late but I was trying to finish the semester 8 ones first. This beginning week hasn’t even ended yet and I already became overwhelmed with my classes. I do not want to spoil anything so let’s just get into my first day.

My first class of the day is actually biology, which probably makes zero sense to anyone here as I am a history major and Political Science minor, but I need more credits and less classes with papers. I liked biology in high school so I am going back to it. I want to keep my mind open for future endeavours which I will admit to in my day 2 post as that is when I have my revelations.

I wanted to get the online biology course for obvious reasons, but i put myself on the wait list and took the in-person one till I was able to enrol. This in-person class was held at 8AM in the morning, which is terrible for me since the buses in my area are not great meaning I have to leave earlier than I would like. That also means I have many hours between his class and the next, which is fine for completing work but damn…

Because this is the first day we were given a bunch of introduction stuff and the syllabus which I will not detail. The professor for this class is actually an Anthropologist, but she teaches this biology course because her speciality is in biological anthropology. We were told to do an icebreaker and I was not pleased, as usual. My time in this class would not last as the very next day (January 6) I would be automatically enrolled in the online version of the course (different professor). I actually plan on scheduling y online time around the same time I would do the in-person one so I have a consistent schedule. If you want to hear about what I learn here let me know but I am going to assume that most probably wont care. Maybe something about Marxism will be mentioned, who knows? Anyway, let’s move on to my humanities class.

So my humanities class is actually taught by my French Revolution professor and she is also teaching the seminar this semester which means I can yap to her about both. Poor woman has had to deal with me for FOUR courses. I do not think she minds as she suggested i take this humanities course as it is about gender and sexuality, things that I am obviously interested in. Again, because this is the first day we just got an introduction to the course and the syllabus. We are beginning with the book of genesis, Adam and Eve, due to the gender dynamics within the story. This will not be covered until the end of this week/beginning of next week. Throughout the course we will be analyzing different readings and movies, some of these include The Zone of Interest, All Quiet on the Western Front (movie), and Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin (we will also be watching his movie too). This class is going to be quite interesting and there are very specific expectations of the essay (not a research paper thank god) so I am less fearful going into this. But of course there is going to be a lot of reading, some of them quite long. Let me know what you all think.

My last class of the day was a theatre class (again, credits needed) which is all about play analysis. I was happy going into this class as it seemed really interesting. There were some writing assignments but only three and they were supposed to be around 300-500 words. I also had to buy a ticket for a local play, which I did before class started (kind of a mistake, to be honest, but you will find out soon enough as to why that is), and would have to write an analysis about the performance. My professor also stated that he would be grading us based off the fact that none of us know nothing about theatre or play analysis, which made me feel better. He then gave us a small exercise where we had. To list off things that are needed to make a play and what of that list could we arguably omit:

Story

Script (can be omitted)

Actors

Place

Technicians (can be omitted)

Props (can be omitted)

Director (can be omitted)

Set (can be omitted)

Tickets/money (can be omitted)

Costumes (can be omitted)

We did this because you technically only need a story, actors, and a place to do the play. The history of western theatre originates from Ancient Greece, because of course it does.

Anyway this is all I have to write, my political science course that I was taking this semester is about ancient philosophy and wouldn’t come until Wednesday. I got the syllabus this day and I saw that I had to write a 5000 word exegesis, which I did NOT want to do on top of all the reading and writing I would have to pump out for my humanities AND history fucking seminar. I did a seminar last semester so I know how tough it is to read so much and also do a huge research paper. So I dropped it because I knew I couldn’t put myself through that. I am going to end up doing my masters in 2027 anyway so it’s fine, I can just do one more semester this year in the fall. I wish school was less harsh but, damn, these classes have hands.
