Explanation: Militaria nerds sometimes draw military equipment as cute anime grills, because we’re deeply damaged individuals with the very reasonable desire to have sex with a tank.

In WW2, American tankers and vehicle crew dreaded the appearance of the Tiger, a Nazi German heavy tank specialized for tank-on-tank combat. There were very few Tigers, however, and they were unreliable and difficult to get to the battlefield… which means that many ‘Tiger’ sightings reported during the war were green (or just nervous) American troops seeing a lighter and less dangerous Nazi tank, like a Panzer IV, and pulling the metaphorical alarm.

Not that it mattered much in the end - when Tigers are being fed into battles piecemeal (largely due to materiel shortages rather than intentionally), while Allied tank destroyers and tanks are hunting in packs of 4-5 and backed by near-total control of the skies and platoon-level access to artillery support, your slow and ‘specialized’ Nazi heavy tank gets knocked out before it even zeroes in on its first target. The Tiger was too little, too late, a mismatch on the 1943-45 Western or Italian Fronts that most Americans saw (or ‘saw’) a Tiger on.
