I don’t know the nuts and bolts history of the founding maybe there wasn’t any other choice considered. I just know fudementalist Christians like my brother and the name Isreal gives him a knee jerk reaction. “It’s biblical prophecy!” He shouts. " We have to support them with everything we got " No amount of trying to explain the history of Zionism or Palestine has any effect on him. It’s pure emotion. I just wonder if he would act the same if it was called The Palestinian Republic or New Zion or something.
Probably, tbh. The narrative has enough confusion to be useful with the names they’ve chosen: “antisemitism” when it comes to people of Eastern European origin, “Jews” who are actually atheists who don’t believe in anything (tell me Epstein believed in Mosaic laws and God’s judgment, lol).
