A self-funded, low budget independent passion project, with little to no marketing, that managed to get a wide theatrical release in over 3,000 theaters (WITHOUT the involvement of a distributor), and make back its’ budget in just three days is nothing short of amazing.

Congratulations to Markiplier for this fantastic achievement!

No shade on him. This is absolutely no small achievement. But for many, the man himself is marketing. Millions, watch, and enjoy his YouTube videos over the last decade or two. I know I have and it’s the only reason I knew about this movie. Literally, before last night. I had not seen anything else come up in any feed about the movie outside of Mark himself.

I hope it continues to blow up though. He absolutely deserves it. And it’s putting egg all over Hollywood’s face. Hollywood definitely deserves it.

I know nothing about this, is it the same “Iron Lung” from that creepy Indy game? Cause that I would love to see.

This movie has received so much attention that even a cinema in my small city here in North Germany will be doing a special screening on Saturday. They never show any movies in the English language, it’s insane.

Really looking forward to it, what an achievement!

It was a pretty decent movie and a good effort for his first try. I watched it on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised with it. I’ve been a fan of Markiplier for about 7 years and have looking forward to it for years. Unfortunately it’s really hard to find honest reviews of it because there are his hardcore fans that will say it’s the best movie they’ve ever seen while critics hate it by default because it’s a “YouTuber movie.” Personally I thought it was a solid effort and a 6 or 7 out of 10. It was a passion project and I always respect people that do projects just for the sake of doing them.

My advice if you wanna see it is try forget that he’s a YouTuber, even if you are a fan of him, and go into it the same way you would with any indie film. Will make it 10x more enjoyable.

I’ve always had some personal resentment against the guy (nothing to do with his work - a toxic ex was really into his videos a good decade ago and that has left a mark, pun intended), but I still found the movie to be quite enjoyable.

Obviously it’s not a triple A title, the acting is… well, it is what it is, it really reminded me of the Red Alert cutscenes. But overall it’s a solid production, with obviously tons of care for it by the cast.

Sometimes low budget stuff become cult classics. Remember The Cube? That was probably the best example, really good movie done almost on budget. I really need to check out Iron Lung.

I watched it fully on a whim with the fiancé and loved it!

I hadn’t heard of the game and im not a fan of markiplier and the entire time I was incredibly impressed and enjoying myself.

Ive seen a lot of people complain that its boring but I genuinely was enjoying the entire thing start to finish so I imagine those people probably have TikTok installed.

Having an army of rabid fans who are actively encouraged to hassle theater owners leads to box office success. Who knew?

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
