Date went okay. Guy was nice. We had some things in common but also were in different worlds. I think after I meet these next two people, I will quit this app thing.

It’s disconcerting when you have these great convos in text, get a kind of vibe going then meet the person and you can’t pick that vibe up in person.

It’s a really odd feeling. You know someone better from a distance than when you’re closer to them.

Yep, it sure is. That’s why in the future, I think I’ll try out calling before actually meeting the person. Hinge doesn’t have that option unfortunately, so maybe I’ll have to redownload Instagram or use another app.

Yesterday, I was sleep deprived, and couldn’t form my words properly. The guy said to me he didn’t know what I was getting at a couple of times, even when I was talking about what happened in a movie he saw. I was so embarrassed. I think I will be ghosted.

Chalk it up to a learning experience.

God knows I’ve made my fair share of blunders. Ive been fairly forthright about my background, so you can imagine what app dates were like in the beginning lol

                Yikes, yep I can imagine.

Look, I’ve never met you in person, but based on your comments here, I can see how you’ve put in a lot of work to get to where you are today. It is really inspiring to see how you’ve built yourself back up, and I hope that one day, someone great can get to witness that too :)

That’s incredibly kind of you to say :)

                  It’s funny:

The difficult times are easy to deal with. But when you’re succeeding, or have something to celebrate, there’s definitely a sting that comes with it if as you say, there’s no witnesses.

No, it’s just kind of exhausting to meet people off apps. It’s like going on a blind date, except you have pictures of them and a little bit of chit chat.

Gotta say, work is not very good at product launches. They’re the sort of place that only puts out something new every 5 years or so but this has been a real hodge-podge.

When I worked for the world’s largest instrument manufacturer we would sometimes have 3 product launches in a week, but they were bad at launches in their own way. They’d announce something then say stock wouldn’t arrive for a couple of months. When stock finally hit stores we weren’t talking about it because we were preparing for the next product launch.

I took the best client facing IT guy with me into a meeting today.

Let me just say, he’s an awesome guy and great to work with.

    However.

These guys really overestimate what the average person understands. Now I get why they hired me.

Back when I worked as a business analyst, about 80% of my work was translating geek into human and back again. It’s a thing. Geek being insurance speak/legalese.

My job description is “Parts Interpreter”.

I have to translate descriptions like “Thingy”, “Whatchamacallit” and “Doo-dad” into useful descriptions through dialogue with the customer.

It is amazing how often the customer doesn’t want to work with you in a dialogue and doesn’t answer any questions or respond to clarifications.

Yeah, I run into this all the time with legalese.

Especially when people claim that they have a share in a trust (they don’t, as trusts don’t have ‘shares’) but their inside-own-head definition of ‘share’ means they think they have a right to benefit from the trust. Unfortunately, the reality often is, they don’t.

What they have is permission given to the trustee to give them some benefit from the trust if the trustee feels like doing so - and that permission can be revoked or just not exercised. The benefit, any benefit, is NOT guaranteed.

But they still use the word ‘share’ to describe their situation. Its not accurate, but who actually cares what reality is anyway? Not the lawyers, not the accountants. And they pay me money to explain this sort of thing to our clients. And sometimes to accountants and lawyers.

Part of the reason I gave up on my relationship with my father is that he started off defensive when learning about computers and devolved into a full on adult tantrum when I told him he didn’t need to know everything at the start. Specifically I was setting up DNS and he wouldn’t let me continue but refused to listen to anything I had to say. Still bothers me. Were I richer I’d get therapy for it but as it is I don’t think there’s any reconciling between us at this point.

🍻 cheers. I’m trying DHC Twilight Hazy IPA which is from a Japanese brewery near Mt Fuji. It’s very malty for an IPA. I purchased it at Sessions bottle shop in Box Hill. They have a vast range of Japanese beers.

What they didn’t have is a Thai spirit called Mekhong. It’s really a rum type spirit. If anyone can turn me on to a supplier I will be your best friend.
