I greatly enjoy taking notes on various news, people, and events to do with socialism.

I take great pride in these notes, and I really think that they strike a very good balance, providing a good summary, as well as all the necessary details.

For the past two years, I’ve been making notes like this for countless topics, and I can’t help but feel like they’re basically just going to waste. Sure, they might come in useful in the future, but just letting them sit there feels like a waste.

I was wondering if anyone had some idea as to what I could possibly do with these. Should I post them here? Is there some other community that might appreciate these? Is there some obvious answer that I’m just missing?

    1. Substack, Youtube series (and have a backup site for these two due to censorship risks and consider learning and practicing opsec)

    2. If you have time/money formalise into grad / post-grad qualifications (eg history, international relations, political enconomics, hard sciences)

    3. Write books and research papers/theses

      I appreciate the advice, but the world of academia is not for me lol.

      As for a Substack, it does sound interesting, but here’s my worry: how do I “advertise it” to people, without seeming like an annoying spammer? The idea of just constantly saying “Hey guys check out my substack” on random leftist communities feels wrong in my mind…

        Social media + smaller quote posts and analysis from your substack about something relevant to recent topics; there’s no foolproof way not to look like a spammer, so just be honest and accept it and others will accept it too if they feel you genuinely contributing something (admittedly, a big if). We live under capitalism, there is no escaping it without revolution.

        I would write for the purpose of writing but if you want to monetise it to get an income (which may you want to do, it’s tough out there) then things may inevitably become a bit complicated/mucky.

        (The acadaemia stuff was also to help hone one’s craft, one can easily get the equivalent of an almost degree with self education these days)

      I’d have to agree. Substack is a good place to easily share any kind of writing and most dirty internet commies are pretty familiar with it at this point.

      Edit: which isn’t to say don’t share it in appropriate lemmygrad communities, just that substack is a good place to put it all and you can share from there.

    Sorry if it’s a bit of topic, but how do you get into taking notes?? I try to do it from time to time, but I usually forgot after day or two… Is it just habit?

      For me personally, it’s just become a habit.

      Every time I do research of any kind, I have Obsidian open on the side, and I take notes on anything I reckon could come in useful later.

      Keep a little notebook and writing utensil on hand, then simply write down the thoughts that cross your mind whenever you encounter anything in your life. No note is a bad note, and your analysis will markedly improve with even a little practice.

      Would highly, highly recommend it.

      I personally use Obsidian. I know it’s not open-source, but it’s an open file format, and the files always stay on your machine, you have full control over them.

      Don’t wanna sound like a shill, but it singlehandedly boosted my note-taking by 100x.

        Yo I do exactly the same thing! Obsidian has let me crystallize my thoughts in my notes, instead of just absorbing whatever the current liberal trend is.

      I used org-roam for a some time, it’s handy if you already using emacs! Otherwise I think it would be hard to get into…

      I stopped using it because it gets too clutterd for my taste, it wasn’t pleasent to search with cyrillics, was kinda pain to sync and it worked kinda bad with orgzly… However I might give it another chance, I certenly did much more notes with it
