Misleading title. Humanity’s 1% richest people and their stupid AI datacenters are heating up the planet faster than ever before. War is heating up the planet faster than ever before. The common human has little or no say or effect in the matter.

I blame the media for painting a “hopeful” rather than a truthful look at where we are.

Doesn’t look like fossil fuels are going away any time. The situation is far more dire than anyone knows. One consequence of our increasing waste of energy on LLM posing as AI is that we are still energy starved because we are malallocating energy. Instead of displacing fossil fuels, it’s only being appended. It is exactly the wrong thing at the wrong time.

No, this is what scares me so much, I feel like most people think that way and it is an extremely dangerous misconception.

      Climate change is ACCELERATING.

I don’t mean to jump on your comment, I just am very worried that this misconception is growing.

That’s because the whole theory is wrong.

The renewables/EVs are being made in factories that are a long term investment in coal powered manufacturing. They are being shipped in oil powered ships and driven by diesel trucks on asphalt roads and mounted on concrete foundations or whatever.

The entire supply chain is the exact same supply chain that was designed in the fossil fuel era.

The renewable energy system is less than 3% of the whole thing and the system isn’t being redesigned.

Unfortunately, what we were doing was always childish and superficial.

The increase in energy demand vastly outpaces the supply of green energy, so the gap is filled by fossil fuels. Unfortunately a lot of the green energy marketing is just aimed at alleviating people’s fear about the environment in order to curve criticism aimed at overconsumption.

Realistically to adequately control climate change we would have to both increase green energy supply and reduce consumption.
