-It might seem silly to ask, but I was banned from the Lemmy Digital Art community for a very unfair decision, and before posting anything here, I want to know if my type of art would be accepted. I don’t post anything explicit or considered offensive; it’s just character art and my own fantasy.

Just post and let the mods sort it out is what I always say. I don’t think you’d get banned for anything especially since the sidebar says

If you are unsure if a piece of media is on theme for this community, you can make a post asking if it fits.

So just post it and if you’re unsure post it while asking if it fits.

And if anyone’s rude to you for what you posted, that’s a CoC violation of

Do not demean or harass others for caring about a topic or details of a topic more than you do.

Lol, no, Selfship is pairing yourself, your avatar, with a character from some game, anime, movie, etc.

        • My apologies - I crossed out my text because it’s clear to me that I didn’t understand you, but I prefer not to erase something I intentionally said that I learned was wrong (but not offensive?) without good reason. If you’d prefer I remove that post, I will.

No, it’s fine. I got fed up with the “furry this and this” argument, so I’ll just make it clear that just because something has animal features doesn’t make it furry, period. I won’t argue about that again. The point of this post is to figure out what kind of content I can upload, since my content is fandom/geek-related.

Post it! I have posted self made art here in the past, and seen others do so as well. I am skipping past any of the discourse, I think high brow, low brow, whatever- ART is the point here. I’ve never caught flak for it, or have ever see anyone else catch flak for it.

Thanks for the support! I just hope it doesn’t take months and I don’t get banned for posting my art, haha. At least, that’s what I think.

I haven’t made furry art, but the moderator of the Digital Art community banned me using that as an excuse. My art posted before the ban consisted of kemonomimi and yokai, my own selfship with an oni, and I also draw bestial creatures without human features—none of that falls under the furry category. I was probably just banned because the moderator disliked it. It seems art is selective based on taste, and there were literally no rules against selfship or purely bestial beings.

Haha, I didn’t mean to misinterpret it, I was just recounting what happened in another community. I like furry stuff, it’s just that I haven’t posted anything of that nature because of the accusations I was making there. Sorry if some words are translated incorrectly, I use a translator.

          • I haven’t made furry art

This was what made me think you were trying to make some distinction between what you had posted and the way I referred to it - to maybe further clarify, I didn’t mean it in a sexualized furry art sense.

Thanks for the context on using a translator, it can certainly make things more difficult, I do think we’re mostly saying the same things, but:

            kemonomimi

I think many English-speaking people would include this when they say “furry art” which is probably why the mod said that.

I tried to look at the posts from lemmy.ml, but it looks like they were removed in a way that I can no longer visit them from the modlog either.

Kemonomini are simply humans with ears and tails. “Beastmen” are people who can transform into creatures depending on the abilities the creator gives them (for example, a kitsune or my avatar, a werewolf). Furry refers to anthropomorphic animals, and even within furry communities, this distinction is made. So the ban was unjustified.

I’m not sure if I should post my social media links here because of spam, but you can find me on DeviantArt as “Usser-Chan”.

You don’t have to be part of the community to know the differences. It’s even made clear in other languages. People joke that anything with animal characteristics is furry, but they’re not.

              • humans with ears and tails

people who can transform into creatures

                anthropomorphic animals

As someone who likes “furry” art, but isn’t deeply part of the community, I think these are in-group vs. out-group issues: within the community, people understand the lines between each, but outside, people lump all of these together under the furry umbrella. I understand the differences you’re talking about, but as mostly an outsider, at a glance I wouldn’t have considered them “not part of the greater umbrella of furry art”.

Yes, the confusion is common. What I mean is that even if I were “furry,” there were no rules about that. I always read the rules before joining an art community. I think the moderator made it up out of dislike or they never put it in writing lol.

(To preface I am nobody in this community, certainly not a gatekeeper or person with authority nor regular contributor)

I think c/art might be too … idk what the right word is, not formal but, something in that vein, since most of the posts are very polished or otherwise “formally recognised” high art, there is some OC as well but the posts I can remember that were OC seemed more traditional. Its very polished.

I’m not sure what to suggest as an alternative. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend literally anyone contribute posts to c/writing so it seems weird to treat visual c/art differently.

Hopefully someone else can suggest a community on HB.

(I like the motifs in your art btw, in particular the ones with robes and masks aesthetics.)

I just asked if I could post my kind of art and it all devolved into whether x thing is furry or not, lol. No more discussion about whether a kemonomimi is furry or not (It isn’t, no discussion). Just comment if fanart, selfships, OCs, and that geeky stuff are accepted here.

i say yes. i took a look at your deviantart, you’re really skilled! I hope to see more of your art here soon!

I’m sorry you got your art removed in that other community, that whole situation sounds really frustrating. I get what you’re saying about kemonomimi not being furry. but yeah your art would be welcome here i think! doggirl-thumbsup
