I’m going to use this post answer some frequently asked questions about the transition from LemmyNSFW to FediNSFW and why it happened.
-
What happened, why the move?
-
Do I have to make a new account on FediNSFW?
- Yes.
-
Can I still post on LemmyNSFW?
-
Please don’t, that will make storage costs and data usage go up, eventually I plan to modify the site’s code to fully prevent post creation.
-
Please use FediNSFW instead.

-
How are you going to ensure the exact same thing won’t happen to FediNSFW?
- I already have other admin candidates I working with/onboarding.
- I plan to set up the accounts related to the site to be accessible by other admins via a unified admin email address, or via group access.
- I’m going to create a bitwarden vault with relevant credentials in it for all admins. That way if something happens and I disappear other admins can just login and take over.
- As far as cost goes, FOR NOW I can fully afford the cost of the server without donations, as far as I can tell at least.
- Currently the donations are just set to go into my personal account, but I would love to get to the point where we can set something up like or maybe joining the fedihosting foundation and have a pool of donations accessible without me. Not sure how I’m going to do that yet, so if you have suggestions, please let me know.

What apps can I use to connect to piefed/FediNSFW?
-
How can I donate to the instance?
The answers to these questions are subject to change/get appended as needed.
Is it just me or I can’t find any community in fedisnfw? All my communities when I search slow as @lemmynsfw. Do you have an example of a community?
search like this [communityname]@fedinsfw and see if you get better results, or navigate to them directly by typing [your instance url]/c/[communityname]@fedinsfw.app
!gonewild@fedinsfw.app is one community you could try
Honestly, major props to you for making the best of a bad situation. The fediverse lost a big and important community in LemmyNSFW, and I can’t imagine anyone handling it better than you did during the transition period. Kudos and thank you!

Several people are posting, anytime there’s a transition like this it’ll take time for things to get as popular as they were, but no posting is limited on lemmynsfw

It sounds like you need to enable NSFW in your settings

Might be your instance, I’m not sure if piefed social allows nsfw content to be shown
Just a note of thanks: thanks.
This is hella encouraging. Thank you for picking up the torch and good luck.
Dugmeup here.
Used to mod cumsluts, Asiancumsluts, facial, bukkake, creampie, cumhaters and Cuminmouth (see a theme?)
Happy to take it on if neededI am some of the nerd lurking on NSFW side of federation. I think having something like Shamir Shared Secret for the vault password is better for the doomsdays scenario. So every admin will have 1 share of secret and it needs to have 3-5 admin for example to be able to correctly generate the vault password.
There’s one small bug I’ve encountered:
If you submit an image post and later edit that post, it’s treated as URL post and then the image is not expanded (or expandable, depending on your settings) in the “list view” of the feed.
This problem doesn’t occur in the “collage view” of the feed.
Thanks for your work LP!
My 2c:
- I wonder if keeping LemmyNSFW up might actually be adding too much of a burden at this point — it seems like it could be driving confusion, inviting scraping requests, and splitting attention from this site
- Small thing, but NSFW content being visible when signed out might be quietly discouraging some people from registering
- A little more detail on the admin team would go a long way toward easing my mind
eventually I plan to modify the site’s code to fully prevent post creation
Can you set them all to mod post only?
they already are, but mods are also sometimes still posting lol
I’m a mod. I can’t post last time I checked. Hmm… You can’t disable everything globally there man ?
You can’t globally disable posting, no. At least not without touching code, which I haven’t had time to do.
You could revoke write permissions to the relevant tables but no idea if that breaks other functionalities as well.
You mean globally ? All communities ? Why ?
on lemmynsfw not fedinsfw
There is no feature to see all of our upvotes and also the number of subscribers quite confusing. Sometimes “local subscribers” number bigger than the “subscribers” number. Which doesn’t make any sense. “Subscribers” is the total globally right ?
I’m sure they working to upgrade all this shit. I really enjoy this site.
Do we need to make our favorite communities again?
Can a list of all communities be generated, so we can check and contribute?
If you were a mod of a community on lemmynsfw, you can import a backup from lemmynsfw into fedinsfw, then if you go to the @lemmynsfw community, in the sidebar there is an option you can choose in order to transfer the community here with all existing posts. I have to approve it and then you’ll have that community here!
If you weren’t a mod or you were but you don’t care to transfer the posts, if a community existed there and doesn’t exist here, you can just create a community you want.
If you weren’t a mod of a community, and you see that a community you want to create doesn’t exist here but did on lemmynsfw, and you want to transfer it and become mod, message me, I think I have the ability to transfer any community.
i don’t fully understand the first point in the move community option: does that mean posts made on the old instance will NOT be transferred when moving the community? or only posts that have been interacted with on the new instance? or something completely else?
When a community is federated, all its posts are too, it basically just duplicates the posts and community description etc. onto this site
i see. thanks!
Sorry where do I create a backup?
@show_me_what_you_got_grrl@fedinsfw.app @BigMcLargeHuge@fedinsfw.app
Import a backup of your profile from lemmynstw into fedinsfw. On fedinsfw, navigate to the @lemmynsfw community, and go to the sidebar, below the moderators. If you were a mod of that community, you will see the option “Move community to fedinsfw.app”
