I’d say to him that there are plenty of alternative sites that Davie504 can upload (IE: Glomble, PeerTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, Nostr, KamTape, BitView and Odysee) - if NOT, he can pretty much launch a new video site. Oh and I would also tell Davie to read socialist theory (starting from Karl Marx’s “Capital” and Vladimir Lenin’s “What is to Be Done?”).
Odysee and Dailymotion seem to be very fine and can use more creators. They work with a VPN and inside of Grayjay.
For Youtube I switched back to Newpipe which funny enough works very fine, while Grayjay simply doesnt. I like having all platforms in one player, but Grayjay has many issues
- no export in newpipe compatible format (lock-in)
- no direct outside-the-app downloads into normal usable containers
- not free software
Davie seems to mainly rely on ad revenue. I never hear him mention Patreon or merch.
And on those other platforms, those are about the only way to make money
