Why is Arkanasas “RRcan saw” , but Kansas not “Cansaw”?
Because Kansas is a direct transliteration into English from the name of the Kansa people.
Arkansas, on the other hand, comes from the French transliteration of the Osage name for the Quapaw people, and you know how the French are. The phonetics are made up and the consonants don’t matter.
May be you should read about the Partition of India happened when the country gained independence from British.
Edit: Also I have no clue what is the meaning of “owning” a river, like the ownership of a river can be transferred or something.
