The Conservatives (EPP) are attempting to force a new vote on Thursday (26th), seeking to reverse Parliament’s NO on indiscriminate scanning. This is a direct attack on democracy and blatant disregard for your right to privacy. No means no. Take action now!
The Greens/European Free Alliance (Greens/EFA) attempted to remove the repeat vote from the agenda, but failed to do so. The vote will now proceed on Thursday, March 26th (source here).
This is not going to happen just because it’s impossible to conduct business without encrypted communications. How am I to connect to a VPN required by the regulators to ensure safety of customer data at a bank I work at?
You can sleep tight, no need for outrage and/or panic every couple of months. If push comes to shove business will intervene because their lives depend on it and they have a lot more pull. By now I suspect Tuta made a business out of scaring regular folks.
Theres two things that are infinite…
I wouldnt rule out the possibility for chat control to be implemented.
I encourage everyone to go through a thought exercise where they imagine how this could be implemented. Like, what governments would have to do to actually implement this specifically and what it would actually mean for everyone involved. Even Russia has trouble with this and their government doesn’t have to worry about next elections.
My point isnt about technical solutions. Its about people wanting control and power. They will find a way to make it work.
Don’t gloss over the details, they’re important and why we’re seeing this same boring story / Tuta advertising over and over.
Man, EU has got to fix this joke of a system when bad actors can immediately repropose a vote on short notice when it’s been shot down multiple times, as if those multiple no’s meant nothing.
FFS!
Switch to simpleX or meshtastic
To what end? The issue is not about secure chat apps being compromised, but about it being effectively made illegal to distribute in the region.
It won’t stop even mildly techy people, but you can say goodbye to your friends and family being able to follow you and close the threat loop around your comms.
Meshcore is bigger than meshtastic in Europe. Regardless, off the grid comms aren’t great as of yet because barely anyone really uses them.
At the moment ,i just installed reticulum
