I guess you’re part of Gen Alpha? Are the kids at your school hooked on Instagram like the rest of Gen Z? Are they aware that they are hooked?

2009 so barely on the cusp. yes, most kids frequently use Instagram and it often leaks into daily conversation, talking about “reels” they saw or someone’s “reposts”. An interesting thing about this generation is that it’s pretty self aware, but generally nobody cares about their destructive behaviors. which I guess is natural for teenagers

      1. so i go to a school that’s pretty unlike most, it’s a public charter school around the Sacramento California area. it has some questionable things about it that I could get into

      2. for me at least, it’s not that bad. my school is really small so groups don’t really pick on anyone. Usually it’s slander behind people’s backs.

      3. my school in particular is not at all diverse, it’s about 90% white

      4. culture wise, maybe 8.5/10. curriculum wise, not great like 4/10.

      • “90% white” I’d get shredded in there.

I’m Chinese American. I get so much casual racism in my school with 30% Asians… can’t imagine 90% white school…

I remember my elementary public school I used to go to in Brooklyn had like 25% to 50% Asians (probably most of them ethnically Chinese). Once we moved ro Philly, racial demographics shifted and instead of being simply bullied because I’m new and my English sucked, it shifted to actual racism… (Oh btw bullying within one’s own race is also a thing btw… just cuz language barrier lol. A lot of American-Born Chinese classmated bullied me too in that elementary school… even though there was not actual inter-racial conflicts)

When I was 17, I got into a fight in my Philly high school, self defence btw… got arrested :(

        Charges dismissed

        Almost got expelled.

I hated that school so I just took the GED.

        Greetings from Philly!

Do you think tech amdo social media are a positive or negative thing?

Do your friends share the same opinion?

      1. i think it’s a really positive thing that got ruined by monetization and platformization. for a while the Internet and computing as a whole was sort of a separate world from the organization of the physical world, especially in the early days (obviously I wasn’t there for that). now, i think social media is pretty negative especially with algorithmic content, everyone has their own feeds and it feels surprisingly isolated. however, niche corners of the Internet can be really great

      2. im not exactly sure. i think most people including my friends would agree that social media is pretty destructive currently

Have you learned about boundaries and setting them in your relationships across the board?

Are you able to walk away when someone unacceptably behaves in ways that negatively affect you, like regardless of if its friends or family? Or at least recognizing how it feels when that happens having the habit of making a boundary/limit/plan that you express to them to make sure they are aware of it and that you know how to respond to it the next time?
