This is a first for me in 20+ years of working. I went through three rounds of interviews with Ascend staffing and was told by each of them that I was their favorite candidate. I was initially offered the job and was told we would speak again next week.
I noticed the offer letter was structured incorrectly (hourly vs salary) and some other minor discrepancies, so I reached out to a member of the interview panel asking about the pay structure the following morning. The offer letter did not match what they said during the interview so it seemed like a clerical error.
No one responded to me and the offer letter was rescinded that afternoon without any warning. So I call the person I texted and he admitted that he was “playing catch up” and never had a chance to connect with the other recruiter that day.
I got ahold of the other recruiter the following morning and he told me everything was fine and he just needed a few days to put together a new offer letter. Keep in mind that this person told me that we would speak again before any decision was made.
8 days passed and it is Wednesday at this point. I have been trying to contact them since Monday. They finally tell me that someone else accepted the offer and essentially wasted my time those past 8 days. They were just waiting for this other person to pass their drug screen first.
Last we spoke I was reassured everything was fine and the offer was still valid. Shout out to Ascend staffing for doing something I have never witnessed in my entire professional career. Who offers you a job then ghosts you for a week while they offer someone else the same job? Ridiculous.
