“I think it would be easier to play in Morocco, especially since the logistical challenges associated with travel are minimal.”
“We could consider holding a match at the new stadium in Casablanca (a venue Morocco is finalizing for the 2030 World Cup, with a capacity of 115,000 spectators). Why not?” Tebas acknowledged in an interview shared by the Moroccan news agency MAP.
Tebas explained that “given the number of fans who follow the Spanish league in Morocco, I think it would be easier to play there, especially since the logistical challenges related to travel are minimal.”
Javier Tebas: “There has always been a strong bond between Spain and Morocco in football”
The president of LaLiga emphasized that the expansion of the Spanish league into the Middle East and North Africa region is “very important”: “We are witnessing an incredible passion for LaLiga throughout the region, from Iraq to Morocco. With Morocco, in particular, there are special historical ties that are also reflected in the world of football.”
LaLiga and the Moroccan National Professional Football League (LNFP) have a partnership agreement.
“There have always been strong ties, closeness, and a great understanding between Spain and Morocco in the sports arena in general, and in football in particular,” Tebas emphasized.
Javier Tebas used the interview to highlight LaLiga’s growth and the league’s ability to clear the €750 million that the clubs owed to the Spanish government: “Today, there are no outstanding debts, and the clubs are meeting their obligations.”
“We are the second-largest league financially, trailing only the Premier League… And I would go so far as to say that we lead the way in terms of European titles,” he stated.
