Hi all,
Our Neighbor’s cat is a free roam cat, she’s out all hours of the day.
The owner is a lovely chap, but he’s going through a rough patch and is never home, or when he is its at odd hours of the day.
They have always let their cat roam free but recently a new cat moved into the area and I guess this has had an effect on “Sammy” - He now poops, 2 - 3 times a day in our garden.
We have two children, a 3 year old and a 1 year old, they’ve been locked in most of this year as we’ve had nothing but rain and storms but now the weather is getting clearer we want them to play outside.
- We’ve tried:
- Citrus fruits
- Pepper
- Coffee
- Cumin oil
- Lavender oil
- Sonic sensors
- Spiked nets (he just poops on the side of the garden instead)
We’ve just ordered some sprinklers but we have no hope that’s going to fix this.
We’ve done some research and we’ve now found that toxoplasmosis can live in moist soil for years. So even if we stop the poop, the soil is pretty much contaminated and the kids will not be able to play outside.
I am besides myself, I am considering writing a letter to my neighbour to ask him to get our garden re-done, as in, have the current soil lifted and replaced with new soil then having him set up a litter space for his cat in his garden. (Also a cat house while he’s at it as Poor Sammy is often left out in the rain/snow)
He has an immaculate garden, has someone come round every 2 months to get it trimmed, mowed and everything else.
I know I can’t spring this out of the blue - I also know I should have written to him sooner but we thought we’d save him the trouble and try to deal with the cat ourselves (we Like Sammy and we never had a problem with him before!)
TLDR - Cat’s been pooping for months, toxoplasmosis stays live in soil for years - I’d like to ask the neighbour to cover the cost to re-soil garden.
