Hi everyone, hope you’re all well.
I am hoping to get some advice from everyone here. My partner and I recently moved into a new apartment, and we want pets! We like both dogs and cats, and plan to get one of both eventually, but the advice I’ve gotten so far is to get the cat first.
We always thought we’d get a kitten, and I’ve been keeping an eye out for breeders, but just the other day we were out shopping and there was an adopt a cat pop up booth, so we popped in to have a look. There we met a very beautiful 3 year old cat. She was just stunning, and had such a nice temperament too - affectionate and happy to be held, but will gently tell you when she’s had enough.
We got the rescue person’s contact details, and when we got home we had a discussion about a kitten vs getting an older cat, which leads me to coming here today. What are the pros and cons?
Neither of us have had a kitten or a cat before, and I like the idea of adopting and giving a cat a home, but my concerns with a mature cat is would it be difficult to train it out of any undesirable behaviors at this age? And Would it still bond with us?
To give more info on our lives, on an average weekday, there should generally always be someone home during the day since my partner and I both work from home on different days, but there will (at least in the short term) be afew hours on some evenings (around 2-3 hours) where no one is home. This happens about 2 nights a week.
We’ve gotten a general idea from google ofc, but it would still be great to hear anyone’s firsthand experiences!
Thank you in advance!
