I’ve been cat sitting for the last week at my folks place. They have two indoor cats, neutered bonded males, and two barn cats, a fixed female and an intact male. I feed them every morning and evening. The housecats have three bowls, one for dry food that they can eat whenever, and I split a can of wet food for each of them between each bowl every AM/PM. In the morning, one of them is all over the wet food while the other kind of ignores it, in the evening it’s the opposite. I’m not around long enough to see who eats what, but the bowls are always clean when I come back. Do they share the food and eat separately, or are they on different feeding routines? I just want to make sure they are getting what they need. The barn cats are similar, they have two separate plates, the female shows up every morning and evening for her plate of wet food, the male is a good mouser and a gopher hog and he shows up every 2-3 days for food, but they both eat from their separate plates and go about their day with no negative interactions. Is this a thing with cats? Do they share food by instinct? I know plenty of people and dogs, and very few of them behave so politely around food.
