My velcro cat was diagnosed with bladder crystals last month. I struggled so much to give her the medication. Gabapentin and arthrocam in liquid form was a disaster every time I had to administer. I had to literally pin her down, grab her by the scruff of her neck and force the syringe into her mouth.
She was becoming scared of me and I was terrified I was damaging our bond.
On Friday, i was told her crystals had evolved into stones and she needed surgery which is booked in for tomorrow. She was in pain and it was breaking my heart.
I’ve come up with a solution for getting her to take the painkiller that I hope may be useful to other cat parents.
I inject the medication into one of those paste sticks and she happily takes it. She’s stopped running from me and being scared.
I’m obviously still worried about her procedure but I hope this tactic can be useful to other people.
